Morehead City, Beaufort and Oriental NC!

We left Swansboro and headed for Morehead City, NC.  We would stay at Morehead City Yacht Basin and tour  Morehead City and Beaufort, NC!  First let me tell you about Morehead City.  The marina is host to the Big Rock Marlin fishing tournament every year.  The marina was loaded with BIG fishing boats!  The orange one is said to have cost $4 million!!!!!   The slips at this marina sell for $350,000!  However the purse for the biggest fish at the Big Rock tournament is $1.8 million!   WOW!

We were in good hands at the marina with protection from the US Army!

Beaufort is a charming small town complete with lots of shopping, museums and history!  We stayed two nights in Morehead City to catch up on laundry and have a little relaxing time.
Next stop River Dunes marina in Oriental, NC.  What a beautiful spot!  It is a planned community that hasn’t been as successful as the investors hoped but what is built is beautiful and the developer had quite the vision.

When we arrived we took the courtesy car into the town of Oriental, population 900.
We had lunch at a great restaurant on the waterfront!  Oriental is a small fishing town with my favorite shrimp boats in the harbor.  This is the biggest one I have ever seen.
Oriental was hit hard by Hurricane Irene last August and many of the shops were closed for 2 months after being flooded by the ocean’s surge!
We headed back to the marina to explore the property!  What better way to do it than in a golf cart!   There are cottages to rent, a chapel that is used for weddings, homes for rent, privately owned homes, a beautiful clubhouse and a great swimming pool.  Here are a few photos!

We ended the day relaxing by the pool!
Tomorrow we will head to Belhaven, NC!

More beautiful scenery is on our agenda!  Hope you come along!
