A beautiful day on the water!

This morning we left Georgetown, SC to travel 52 miles to Myrtle Beach.  Before I talk about our beautiful day on the water, let me show you Georgetown, SC.

We stayed last night at Harborwalk Marina, had a great dinner with Marc, Michele and Jayne and Irv, folks we met from Karaya(sailboat).  Karaya had just returned from winter in the Bahamas and they are heading home to St. Michaels on the Chesapeake!  Georgetown is a small, quaint, historic town.  Here are a couple pictures of the town.

Now onto our beautiful day on the water!  Words can’t describe how pretty the scenery was today.  Unfortunately we had a 2 mile current against us most of the day so it slowed us down considerably but the good news is it gave us more time to enjoy the scenery!
The sky was bright blue, the sun was shining all day and it was cool!  Mile after mile was beautiful scenery like what is pictured below!  We said more than once it reminded us of northern MN and also of the beautiful parts of the Mississippi.  We really felt at home on the water today.

The picture below looks like the flooded Mississippi!  There is this thing called TIDE down in this part of the world!  Georgia, we saw 6 - 8 foot tides and in SC we are seeing tides 3 - 5 feet!  We are thrilled at the end of the day when the docks we tie up to are floating and we don’t have to calculate how tight to tie the lines to account for the tides.
We love floating docks!
There are many bridges on the ICW but rarely do we have to wait to have the bridge raised or swung like the one in the picture!  This one was only 11 feet vertical clearance and we need 13 feet.
There was beautiful foliage and tons of Osprey and Eagles on the water!  No dolphins today because we were basically in a fresh water river.

The houses......see for yourself!   There is a lot of money in this area!

For the golfers........at this particular course in Myrtle Beach, the clubhouse and the parking lot are on one side of the river and the course is on the other.  A cable car transports the golfers and their clubs across the river.  The other picture is a hole that if I were playing I would lose all my balls in the water and spend the rest of the time in the sand traps!

Tomorrow we will move on to Southport, NC!  We will enter our 14th state when we hit NC.  We have already been in MN, WI, IA, IL, IN, MO, KY, TN, AL, MS, FL, GA, SC!  Whew!  NC makes number 14!

The sun has set, the conch has been blown!  It is time to go to bed!  Good night!  Pat

P.S. We got up this morning and realized we had both grabbed our free “Dog River” tee shirts!  Trust me, we changed clothes before we went out in public!  I did think it was worth a self portrait of the Captain and the Admiral!
