We stopped at the Gananoque municipal
marina for a pump out and to fill on fresh water. They had a three hour
courtesy dock, and a good WiFi connection, so we pulled onto the dock to
catch up with e-mails, and take care of some business. Then a short
walk to town for lunch and an ice cream cone.
We pulled out of Gananoque shortly after
noon, and headed east down the St Lawrence River to an area called the
Thousand Islands. This is about a 50 mile stretch of the St. Lawrence
that has numerous back channels, many shallow rocky areas, some areas
with depths exceeding 200’, and many small islands.
We ended up at a Parks Canada dock on Georgina Island, where we launched the dinghy to have a look around.Along the way, we grabbed the binoculars to try and figure out just what kind of channel markers we were seeing in the distance. Turns out it was a herd of float toys anchored in front of someones house! I think it is an attempt at getting boaters to slow down when passing by. They sure got our attention!
These islands are privately owned, and inhabited in the summers. There is everything from modest cabins ---------
to very nice single family homes.
and of course the palatial estates!
Some people really don't want you poking around their paradise retreat.
Our friends Dave and Susie never told us they moved from their St Croix water front property to their own island!!!
There are many boat garages. This one had three antique wooden boats in it!
The scenery was spectacular!!!!
We also took a hike around the island to stretch our legs.
Tomorrow we head back west to Heart Island where we will tour the Boldt Castle, then on to Clayton to see the antique boat museum.
Good Night - and have a Happy 4th of July!
