Saving the Dinghy and Cruising the Trent Severn!

Ken told you about our fun anchor out with Randy and Dawn and their friends but what he didn’t tell you about was how an American dinghy was saved by a Canadian hero!  That is our beloved “20 CENTS” in the picture, motor idling and slowly drifting away from the Captain!

Here is the Captain watching from the swim platform as 20 CENTS is slowly drifting away on her own.  The rest of the anchor out crew was on Randy and Dawn’s boat while Ken waved his arms seeking a rescue hero!

Steve, one of Randy’s Canadian friends, jumped on his SeaDoo and saved the day!   It was a stroke of luck that there was a camera on board so this great rescue effort could be captured on camera!

We left Trenton on Sunday morning following Jackets II to the first of twelve locks.  CBAY and Seabatical were to follow in the second lock through!  These locks are small and only hold two big boats.  Locking up on the Trent has proven to be relatively simple.  Stephen is taking his role in the lock a little too casual don’t you think?

Our destination for the day was to be Campbellford, ON.

Jackets II stopped on a lock wall but the other three of us continued on to the town of Campbellford to tie up on the city wall!  We needed to try and find a camera what with mine only working some of the time and Ken’s still on Randy’s boat.  We did find a camera so the blog will continue to contain pictures of our wonderful adventure.

Canada money contains “Loonies” ($1 coins) and “Toonies” ($2 coins).  Campbellford has a large “Toonie” in the park by where we were docked.

Here is part of our gang sitting discussing Rusty’s jump off the railroad bridge with kids at one of the locks  We missed it but Tara caught it on film.  Rusty is fully living the Loop every minute!

Pictured are Ken, Jan, Rusty and Tara.  Joe must have still been cleaning the boat!

The day ended with a beautiful sunset!

We left this morning after filling up with gas!  Today’s destination was to be Hastings, ON!  CBAY and Seabatical headed to the locks first!  20BUCK$ had the locks to ourselves today as Jackets II did some exploring in Campbellford before heading out!  We were told the scenery would get prettier the further we traveled on the Trent.  They were not kidding!

The locks on the Trent Severn are getting taller, not longer and wider but taller!

The homes along this part of the waterway were beautiful with lovely flowers and landscaping!

More evergreens are seen in the forests now, a sign that we are truly in the north country.

We arrived in Hastings and tied up in front of CBAY and Seabatical.  Jackets II arrived a little later!  Also tied on the wall were Paddy Wagon and Charlene Rae, two other looper boats.  Paddy Wagon is new to us but we had talked with Charlene Rae in Chambly!  It is so fun to meet new loopers and reconnect with others we have met along the way!  Tomorrow we will head for a lock wall outside Peterborough, ON.  The plan is to stay there two nights and enjoy a free outdoor concert and fireworks on Wednesday!

We now have a working camera, our dinghy remains safely attached to 20BUCK$.... so all is well on the Loop!  Good night!  Pat
