It is amazing how much and how large the lumber was that built these old ships!
The museum was filled with items pertinent to the City, and many items of bygone times.
As Judi & Pat are both nurses, this old EKG machine was of interest to them.
One corner had old snow skis, sleds, and skipjacks. Some of this equipment
did not look much different than that which I learned to ski on.
This old carriage was in remarkable condition. The sign said it had been in continuous use for 25 years.
Many of these carpenter tools were the same as my father had.
We had stayed at the Lock 12 Marina when when we did this section of the
Loop with Jim & Linnea in 2006. It has since been closed, and sold
to the marina on the opposite side of the canal. They are turning it
into a supper club.
Just a mile or so after leaving Whitehall, we crossed into Vermont. In 2006,
we were greeted by a gentleman standing on this rock outcropping waving
and waving and waving to us as we passed by! We figured he was the
Vermont Welcoming Committee! However, he was no longer there. I sure
hope he didn’t lose his job!
The water was calm, and the landscape started to change as we approached the Adirondack Mountains. That is the Amtrak Train that Judi & Rich will ride from our next stop in Port Henry back to NYC.
We have noticed that the further north we get, the higher the price of gas goes. Buoy 39 Marina had a low price posted, so we pulled in to top off.
A little further into lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga appeared. Shortly after, the bridge near Port Henry was in site. The Coast Guard had been broadcasting severe storm warnings for later in the afternoon, and we wanted to be secured to a dock before they hit.
When we saw the Crown Point Light, we knew we were close to our destination. The sky was getting darker, and the wind was picking up. We made it to our destination of Port Henry well before the storm hit.
Pat & Judi dished up a delicious taco salad for supper complete with Champagne. We relaxed in these chairs right behind the boat, and Pat signaled the sunset with the conch.
Just as the sun set, the winds picked up more, the clouds darkened, and the rain started. We watched the storm cell on the boat radar as it passed just in front of us. We got some strong winds and driving rain, but no hail as had been predicted.
Saturday morning turned into a beautiful, sunny, cool day. It was time for Judi & Rich to catch the Amtrak back to New York where they will spend a few more days, then fly back to Minnesota. It’s only a short walk through the woods to the Amtrak Station.
We made it there in plenty of time, only to be told the train is late. “Just remember - you’re in Port Henry - nothing is on time here!”
It was only a short wait until we heard the rumble coming down the track.
Good - Bye!
It was great having you aboard!!
