Heading up the Hudson!

We left New York City on Saturday, June 2 after a great week of exploring the “Big Apple”!  The scenery really starts to change after you leave Manhattan but you can turn back and see the sky scrapers for miles.

Our destination today is Half Moon Bay marina about 25 miles up the Hudson just north of the Tappan Zee bridge.  We passed under the George Washington Bridge which means we could call Boat US and change our insurance coverage back to inland waterways - no more salt water!

It  is sure fun to have friends from home on board for a week!  We are training Rich in as “the captain”!  It was a beautiful day so Judi caught a little cat nap in the sun!

We arrived at Half Moon Bay and took a walk through the town of Croton before dinner on the boat and a beautiful sunset!

Sunday was a longer travel day as we were headed for Kingston, NY, 57 miles up the Hudson.  The current is strong so we all kept a close watch for debris in the water.  Feels like we are back on the Mississippi!!

There is some military activity in this part of the Hudson.  We soon saw West Point appear on the river!  Really a beautiful facility!

These wonderful lighthouses will be seen from now all the way up the Hudson River and Champlain canal!

The ships are getting bigger again too!  Ken radioed this one to ask which side of the channel he would like us on.  He told Ken he was going to be in the middle of channel and we should just “stay out of his way!”  Good idea I would say!

We are docked at the Kingston City Marina and despite the threat of rain decided to go for a walk through the historic town of Kingston.  The town is full of beautiful historic homes!

As we were headed back to the boat we were greeted by a rainbow!  I am sure the “pot of gold” is there somewhere!!!!

Dinner was outside at an Italian restaurant called Savano!  Great friends, great food, great wine!  What a GREAT day!!!

Tomorrow, Monday, we will head to the CIA(Culinary Institute of America) for lunch and tour the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt Mansions!  Come on along!
