It has a wonderful staircase in the front and in the back of the house that met in the middle. The colored glass that you see on the front door was original from when the house was built in the 1850’s. You could see out it but you can’t see in from the outside.
As we were
leaving there was a HUGE pecan tree by the driveway. There were still a
handful of pecans on the ground that the squirrels hadn’t taken. We
picked them up and the Captain cracked them. We have a bowl of fresh
picked pecans. They are very tasty!!!
Our next stop was the Waverly mansion in West Point, MS. We weren’t allowed to take
pictures inside this house but believe me when I say it was pretty
spectacular. The current owner is an 85 year old man who bought the
house in the early 1960’s after it had sat empty for 50 years. It is
unbelievable that it wasn’t totally destroyed by vandals. It had two
magnificent staircases that went up 3 floors. There was the main floor,
the second floor with the bedrooms, the third floor was an attic and
the fourth floor was a coupella. We were only allowed to go to the second floor. Mr. Snow lives on the second floor with one of his daughters! Today he raises peacocks in the back.
Our last stop of the day was Hank's barbecue for lunch. Patrons write on the walls and of course because we are close to Tupelo, MS where Elvis was born there is a lot of Elvis “stuff” on the walls.
In this case the Elvis picture was right
below Billy Bass! Don’t you love it!!!! The barbecue was fabulous
too! After a stop at Walmart for a few groceries, we were back at the
marina for the evening.
Tomorrow we continue down the TennTom cruising ever so much closer to salt water!
NEWS FLASH! The report from our
friends, Dick and Sandy who are behind us on the trip down. The Parrot
is alive and well at Hoppies!!!!!
Good night - Pat
