We toured the beautiful Oatlands Plantation and gardens!
Then we drove to Harpers Ferry situated on the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers where Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia meet! It is best known for John Brown’s raid in 1859 and their role in the Civil War!
The C & O canal for a bike ride was the next activity on the agenda! This is a 185 mile long canal that was built forming a trade route between the Potomac River in Washington DC and the headwaters of the Ohio River in PA. This is a bicycle trip that many folks do in the summer and I can see why. We didn’t do the whole 185 miles but the miles we did do highlighted its beautiful scenery!
The canal even had a lock! Lock 27 with the lock master's house on the side! Obviously today it is not functional but you can still see the structure!
The last day we headed to Washington DC, only an hour from Peggy’s! It doesn’t matter how many times I visit DC, I am in awe of the beautiful memorials and monuments built in honor of our forefathers and our veterans!
Highlights of the day were the WWII
memorial, FDR memorial and the American history museum. I always love
to view the White House as it is such a beautiful building. A passing
motorcade with the President or another dignitary stopped our path to
the other side of the White House!
What a great day!
Captain Ken survived his time alone
on the boat! He got a lot of projects done and even installed some sexy
blue lights on the back deck! We are still waiting for a rebuild kit
for the sea water pump! Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow and it can be
put on so we can head for Baltimore on Wednesday!
I am
blessed to have the most wonderful friends a person could ask for!
Thank you Peggy for your hospitality. Of course as everyone knows we
also did a lot of eating, gabbing, shopping, watched three movies,
enjoyed some wonderful wine and just enjoyed each others company! Pat
